10 things eHarmony 2.0 can copy from Gmail

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

1. A “task inbox” layout — e.g., “Welcome bubblenix, here are your tasks for today.”

2. A conversations layout — all my communications with a match in one conversation thread page.

3. Multilingual and internationalized — alas, eHarmony, there’s billions to be made in international markets.

4. Status messages — e.g., “Bubblenix is taking karate class”, “Bubblenix has just fell in love with Pad Thai” or “Bubblenix is in Milwaukee until Monday.”

5. Context-sensitive help with instructional videos and linked to a support discussion forum.

6. Fraud detection and a prominent “Report this match for abuse” link. — I’d love to hear how you’re improving your fraud detection systems. And really, what’s so embarassing about putting a reporting link like this on the match details and communications pages? Fraudsters and abusers would be caught right away.

7. Spellchecking, autosave and drafts would be awesome. Plus, my matches keep asking the same eHarmony-provided questions, so I’d love it if eHarmony can remember my answers.

8. Mouseover pictures on the matches list. And also, hide my photos when I close a match. Closed matches really don’t need access to my pictures.

9. Autoarchive. Matches close automatically after a given time of inactivity, on my end or on theirs.

10. Search.

And last, I know this isn’t in gmail, but…. show estimated database counts as I expand or restrict my match settings. For example, let me see that my pool of potential matches drop from 3,000 to 1,000 people just because I chose not to relocate. It’d help me figure out how flexible I need to be to receive the amount of matches I want.

Remembering answers has been pointed out here:

FireFox has worked well for me in helping to remember answers for the 1st questions. I just use a custom answer for each one and it gets saved. Click on the free-response field and it get auto-filled. The rest, I just pull from a text-file and modify to suit.

Your #10, Search, do you mean searching your existing matches for keywords or names, or searching the member database for profiles matching some criteria?
