Are you fun to be with? What sorts of things do you like to do when you go out on the town? During a typical week, what sort of physical activities do you enjoy? What do you most like to do on a day off? Here are a few ideas on answering this About Me question:
Dos
- The primary purpose of this About Me question is to make the reader want to join you in these leisure activities.
- Instead of five one-word hobbies, write a couple of sentences on two hobbies. Evoke the thought of “Hey, that sounds like fun” in the other person.
- Vary your list with indoor and outdoor, summer and winter, daytime and nighttime, mental and physical, planned and spontaneous, funny and serious activities.
- Cite the daytime activities asked by “What do you most like to do on a day off?”
- Cite the nighttime activities asked by “What sorts of things do you like to do when you go out on the town?”
- Cite the physical activities asked by “During a typical week, what sort of physical activities do you enjoy?”
Don’ts
- Don’t cite only one activity.
- Don’t dwell on career-related activities.
- Don’t stick to activities belonging to your “passion” answer.
- Don’t dwell on solitary activities.
- Don’t cover once-a-year activities. It seems you had no leisure time the rest of the year.
- Don’t say, “I hardly have any time left over,” or “I’ve been very busy lately.”
- Don’t say, “Whatever time I have left I spend with my son.”
- Don’t mention activities you don’t do, you won’t do, or you will never do again.
- Don’t mention activities that had happened to you once and will never happen again.
