eHarmony CEO Greg Waldorf gave WebmasterRadio.fm a very informative phone interview last Tuesday, 20 May 2008:
“The opportunity and the challenge is satisfying the customer. On our business, people have very high expectations. We’re going to try to make everyone of them happy if we can. I think, with the large scale of people we deal with you could just kid yourself and look at numbers and aggregate but we, we’re doubling down on the customer satisfaction front. …”
Q. Is your business seasonal?
A. We have seasonal strengths in Q1. … Basically from the week after Christmas to Valentines’ Day, is a seasonally strong period. We see more tailend in customer acquisition but it’s not so seasonally significant that we do 75% of our business in Q1 or something but it’s definitely the strongest quarter of the year.
Host Larry Weber asked Waldorf questions such as:
- How international are you and what are your plans?
- How do you view traditional businesses and how are they faring?
- Is marriage going up or down in the United States?
- What kind of marketing are you doing and what has been effective?
- What are the components of building a scalable web business?
- What is the impact of social media on eHarmony’s services?
- Name some web businesses you admire.
- Do you guys buy keywords in Google?
- Rich media – is this eHarmony going to go deep into? “Television is still our largest acquisition source.”
- How did you come up with a cost structure?
- What is in eHarmony’s future?
- Are there any other fun sites that you personally enjoy?
